“If you open 30 PRs, you will see that they just don't get in.”
AI can generate code faster than ever. But what happens when engineers can't keep up?
AI coding agents are changing how software gets built, allowing product teams to create features and open pull requests (PRs) much faster than before.
But faster coding doesn't always mean faster software delivery.
Tammuz Dubnov (CTO & Co-Founder of Autonomy AI) explains a growing challenge in AI-assisted software development: the engineering review bottleneck.
When AI tools make it easier to generate code, teams can suddenly produce dozens of pull requests. But every PR still needs to be reviewed, validated, and approved before it can become part of a production system.
Engineers already spend significant time reviewing each other's code. Adding more AI-generated pull requests can increase that workload rather than eliminate it.
Tammuz describes how some users quickly create multiple PRs and then wonder why their features haven't gone live.
The problem isn't necessarily how fast AI can write code. It's how quickly teams can evaluate, prioritize, and safely integrate those changes.
AI can accelerate development, but it doesn't automatically remove the bottlenecks of software engineering.
As AI coding agents become more capable, the real competitive advantage may come from knowing what deserves to be built and reviewed first.
Is AI actually making software development faster, or just creating more code for engineers to review?
