Can a group of ordinary people become smarter than every individual inside it?
Louis Rosenberg (AI Researcher & Innovator) describes an experiment exploring collective intelligence and swarm intelligence by having groups solve IQ test questions together.
When participants relied on traditional collective intelligence and voted on answers, the group became somewhat smarter. But when the same type of group was connected through a swarm intelligence structure, Rosenberg says its collective performance increased dramatically.
The result was equivalent to an IQ of 128, around the 97th percentile.
Even more surprising, the collective swarm didn't just outperform the average participant. Rosenberg says it consistently outperformed every individual member of the group.
This is what makes collective superintelligence so interesting. Instead of simply averaging human intelligence or choosing the most popular answer, a connected group can deliberate, share different perspectives, and converge on solutions that individuals may not reach alone.
It raises a much bigger question about the future of AI and human intelligence: What happens when artificial intelligence helps large groups of humans think together instead of trying to replace them?
