The #1 mistake new product leaders make

The skills that make you a great PM can hurt you as a leader.

Being great at product management doesn't automatically make you a great product leader.

Yue Zhao (Product Leader & Executive Coach) explains that product managers are often rewarded for execution: getting things done, staying close to every detail, solving problems, and making sure nothing gets dropped.

But once you move into leadership, those same habits can start working against you.

Your job is no longer to jump in and solve every problem yourself. It's to enable other people to do their jobs well, coach them through challenges, and create systems that allow the team to succeed without depending on you for everything.

That's a difficult transition because the skills that helped you succeed as an individual contributor aren't necessarily the skills you need to lead others.

Becoming a better leader can mean learning when not to step in.

Can being too good at execution actually hold back your leadership?
