The mouse and keyboard have defined computing for decades. AI agents could make them feel outdated.
Jake Steinerman (Spatial Computing Expert & Developer Relations at Cesium) predicts that traditional computer interfaces may become increasingly unnecessary as artificial intelligence changes how we interact with software.
Today, most applications are designed around screens, menus, buttons, and interfaces that humans need to navigate.
But AI agents could change that.
Instead of manually operating software, users may simply tell an AI agent what they want, and the agent could interact with systems and complete tasks behind the scenes.
Jake references an idea he associates with tech investor Marc Andreessen, although he isn't certain who originally proposed it: the future of headless software, where applications operate without requiring traditional visual interfaces for every interaction.
Instead of clicking through menus or switching between applications, AI agents could increasingly handle those interactions automatically.
Jake believes that within the next decade, using a mouse and keyboard could begin to feel surprisingly outdated.
Will AI agents replace the way we use computers, or will traditional interfaces always have a place?
