AI Could Need 15 New York Cities of Power⚡
AI isn't just running into a chip bottleneck. It may be running into an electricity bottleneck.
Rob Gramlich (Electric Grid Expert) explains that forecasts based on utility reports around the country point to roughly 166 gigawatts of additional power demand over the next five years.
To put that number into perspective, that's about 15 New York Cities' worth of electricity.
As AI data centers expand, the challenge isn't simply building more servers or buying more GPUs. Those facilities need enormous amounts of electricity, grid connections, transmission infrastructure, cooling, and new power generation.
The AI boom may ultimately depend on something far more physical than algorithms: whether the power grid can keep up.
